What is person-centred care?
Person-centred care focuses on seeing each resident as an individual with unique needs. It moves away from “task-based” care and instead prioritises dignity, respect, and meaningful engagement, balanced with excellent clinical care. This is especially important for people living with dementia, helping them to maintain identity, independence, and wellbeing.

A person-centred approach
- Values a person’s history, preferences, feelings, and choices, including their hobbies and interests
- Involves people receiving care and their loved ones in key decisions about their care and treatment
- Helps people feel respected, understood, and more in control of their daily lives
- Gives people autonomy to help them feel more independent and valued
- Provides opportunities for people to take part in new things or pursue things they enjoy
- Ensures people are treated with dignity and respect
How we deliver person-centred care
Person-centred care is at the core of everything we do at Brunelcare. We take the time to find out the history and interests of each individual so we can build a tailored care plan that suits your needs, while ensuring you are also supported to make the most of life in a way that suits your lifestyle.

Person-centred dementia care
Our key training programme, FITS into Practice (Focused Intervention Training and Support), is an evidence-based programme that builds skills in person-centred care, reducing distress and improving quality of life for residents with dementia. It includes workshops, practical tools, and mentoring, empowering staff to lead change.
FAQs
How do I know if my care is person-centred?
A person-centred approach focuses on choice and dignity. Think about how you have been involved in your care; have you and your loved ones been informed about your care and options for treatment that consider your physical, mental, emotional and social wellbeing? Do you feel as though you are in control of your choices, and empowered to make decisions?
What are the benefits of person-centred care?
Person-centred care puts people’s values and autonomy at the core of their care, making their happiness a key consideration. Receiving care that is person-centred can help residents maintain their identity and independence, which positively impacts both mental and physical wellbeing.
