Reablement Centre - successful 12-month trial

In October's issue of Caring Times, Jan little, Brunelcare’s Director of Care Homes, talks about Orchard Grove; our 24-bed Reablement Centre set up to serve Bristol and South Gloucestershire.

In 2014, when the Care Act was introduced, local authorities were expected to provide services for people aimed at reducing their care needs and to help them regain skills, particularly after a hospital stay. Brunelcare responded to this challenge by approaching their Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) in Bristol and South Gloucestershire with a proposal to set up and manage a 24-bed reablement service, funded by the NHS.

‘Guests’ are referred to Orchard Grove and are expected to remain in the centre for maximum of 3 months with a view to getting them back into their homes, an extra care scheme, sheltered housing or care home. Each guest is encouraged to manage their own daily activities in preparation for their return home.

The unit is deemed a success after a 12-month trial. The centre achieved a 78% success rate, hailed by the CCGs as being a very reassuring result, particularly as this is a new and developing service.
