Make the most of every moment with the Brunelcare Homemakers

  • Diwali celebrations take place in the gardens at Deerhurst care home.

Life at Brunelcare care homes is about more than just living, it’s about living well. That’s why we have a dedicated Homemaker team whose sole focus is to improve the wellbeing of the people who live with us.

Our Homemakers’ goal is to make residents really feel at home, by learning their history, interests and lifestyle to make sure they can make the most of later living in a way that suits them. This could be by taking part in one of our many engaging activities, joining us on regular outings, engaging in 1:1 interaction, or simply making their home feel more like a home.

Our homemakers are not included in the staffing numbers delivering direct care, as we recognise the importance of helping to enhance the lived experience for people in our home.

Watch our Homemakers talk about how their role supports residents to make the most of every moment:

  • There is never a dull moment on Aster as the staff always have a range of activities going on or music playing, movie evenings and lots of laughter. It’s simply a wonderful atmosphere on Aster and the staff make it their priority to make sure all residents join in.

  • The daily activities were a joy to attend and the staff ensured that everyone enjoyed themselves, whilst being looked after in every way.

  • There are so many options for involvement in activities that are stimulating and enjoyable for him. Staff know him so well they know which ones he loves. He is also included in days out to activities and visits to places of interest - all maintaining as 'normal' as possible a life for him.

  • All the activity team do their best to make sure all residents are invited and help them join in many things including bingo, music therapy, cinema viewings, cooking, decorating for events, trips out in the minibus and many more. If you ask my mum about how she feels about living there, she will say she is very happy.

  • My mum has seen a multitude of different animals which have been brought into the home and have been encouraged to interact with the residents. They hold a weekly 'bring our babies' in for the residents and they love this time with the babies. They have their own transport for residents who are mobile and in wheelchairs and often go on visits to the zoo, lama farm, river boat trips and local parks to mention a few.

  • How does the homemaker team differ from the core care and nursing team?

Our homemaker team is not included in the staffing numbers delivering direct care, and instead has a sole focus on supporting the holistic wellbeing of residents at our care homes. This could be through organising a regular calendar of events and activities for residents to engage in, providing 1:1 interaction to those who need it, or helping residents make their rooms feel more like home. Our homemakers have a nurturing presence that makes residents feel at ease, and their focus on emotional and social wellbeing ensures residents are not only receiving the highest quality care at our homes, but are also supported to make the most of later living.

  • What are the benefits of having a homemaker team?

Having a dedicated homemaker team means residents are actively supported to thrive in our care homes. Homemakers ensure each individual resident is given the opportunity to live life in a way that suits them best, which could involve taking part in our engaging group activities, day trips and events, developing meaningful relationships with other residents or having one-to-one companionship in the comfort of their own room. Relatives and loved ones can feel comforted knowing that, in addition to our exceptional personal care, residents’ emotional and social wellbeing is at the forefront of everything we do.
