The Care Quality Commission (CQC) recently carried out a two day unannounced inspection in of Brunelcare’s Saffron Gardens care home, awarding the team an overall rating of Good, including an Outstanding ‘Responsive’ rating. Another great results for the care home team!
Our Saffron Gardens care home provides 70 care rooms, purpose built to provide 24/7 nursing and specialist dementia care. Split into five ‘courts’, all of the courts specialise in end-of-life care; for which the care home team was also awarded a national accreditation award in 2018 by the ‘Gold Standards Framework’.
The CQC inspection report states:
“The service was outstanding in its responsiveness to people’s individual needs. There was a strong person centred culture and staff understood the needs of people they supported exceptionally well.”
According to the CQC’s website, there are 103 care homes in Bristol that provide nursing care (this includes care homes in South Gloucestershire and Bath). Of these, only six currently have achieved an ‘Outstanding’ in one or more of the CQC rating categories.
Jan Little, Brunelcare’s Director of Care Homes says:
“We do not underestimate the high level of care and diligence that every employee in the home provide on a daily basis to achieve a rating like this. The Outstanding rating for their responsiveness is I think one of the true measures of what it takes to deliver real care.”

Construction of an extension to local charity Brunelcare’s extra care housing scheme in Bishopsworth has reached an important milestone.
Clifton Pavilion (Bristol Zoo Gardens) was the setting for a very special occasion - Brunelcare’s annual Long Service and Learning & Development awards evening.
