Information taken from ‘A Brief History of Brunelcare’ by Stephen Morris:

October is a significant month in the history of Brunelcare, for on the morning of 17th October 1941 the Old People Welfare Committee (or OPWC, nowadays known as Brunelcare)  held its first meeting!

On the agenda were discussions about establishing homes for old people and extra pensions being made available in special circumstances for older people to live in rented homes.
