Glastonbury Care Home achieves Two-Star Gold Accreditation for dementia care

We’re delighted to share some fantastic news from our Glastonbury Care Home, which has officially achieved Two Star Gold Accreditation with the National Dementia Care Accreditation Scheme (NaDCAS).
The home achieved an overall score of 85%, a significant improvement on its previous score of 64%. This is a fantastic achievement for the team and recognises the continued work taking place at Glastonbury to provide high-quality, person-centred care for people living with dementia.
NaDCAS is an evidence-based framework developed by dementia care experts to support care providers in delivering high standards of dementia care. The accreditation looks at a range of areas, from the environment and how we understand the people we support, to the quality of interactions and the way we promote wellbeing.
One of the strongest areas for our Glastonbury team was Enabling Environment, where the home achieved an outstanding 96%.
This reflects the work the team has done to create a welcoming, accessible and dementia-friendly environment that supports residents’ wellbeing, independence and dignity.
The home also achieved 95% for ‘The Senses for Wellbeing’, recognising the thought that goes into lighting, sensory comfort, calm surroundings and the physical environment. These details can make a real difference to how comfortable and supported people living with dementia feel.
Understanding each resident as an individual is a key part of person-centred care, and this was another area where the Glastonbury team performed particularly well.
The home achieved 90% for Information About the Person, reflecting its focus on understanding residents’ preferences, interests, life histories and personal information.
The introduction of one-page profiles for residents has helped the team to capture and share this information in a simple and accessible way. Staff have also been given additional time to get to know these profiles and use what they learn in their day-to-day approach to care.
The move towards a more focused household model across our four communities has also made a positive difference.
The assessment found that these changes have helped create a more stable care dynamic for residents and supported team members to work more effectively together. This has the potential to have a really positive impact on both the care we provide and residents’ experience of living at Glastonbury.
The quality of interactions between residents and team members was also highlighted. One assessment standard received an Exceptional rating, with the assessors noting that team members engage with or acknowledge residents at every opportunity. Numerous examples of positive interactions and compassionate care were recorded.
Nisha Binumon, Home Manager at Glastonbury Care Home, said: “I am incredibly proud of this accreditation and, most importantly, of the team behind it. Achieving Two Star Gold is a fantastic recognition of the care, compassion and commitment that our team brings to Glastonbury every day. To see how far we have come, from our previous score of 64% to achieving 85%, is a huge achievement. It reflects the hard work that has gone into understanding each resident as an individual, strengthening the way we work together and creating an environment where people living with dementia can feel comfortable, supported and valued. This is a really proud milestone for us, but it also gives us a great foundation to keep improving and looking at new ways to provide the very best care for the people who live at Glastonbury.”
The Two Star Gold Accreditation is a reflection of the everyday care, compassion and teamwork that goes into making Glastonbury a place where people living with dementia can feel at home.
And, of course, this isn’t the end of the journey. We’ll continue to learn, improve and find new ways to make a positive difference to the people we support.
