Our Trustees 

Steve Boardman
Chair from December 2013

Steve is a management consultant with over 20 years’ health care expertise,  having worked in and consulted with the NHS, the private sector and health care businesses.  He specialises in planning and capital investment appraisals.  His most recent NHS role was as Director of Strategic Development with NHS Bristol. Steve has a degree in Economics and postgraduate qualifications in Management and Accountancy. 




Julie Steed
Trustee from October 2014

Julie has been a Trustee since October 2014, and brings a wealth of experience in Marketing and Business Development. Julie has worked in marketing for over 20 years in a variety of sectors including travel, FMCG, health, charities, customer service training consultancy and the automotive industry.Julie currently lives in Bristol and works as the Marketing and Customer Service Director for a multi-national commercial vehicle dealer network, and has also sat on their Board since April 2013.


Richard Gaunt
Trustee from December 2009

Richard is a retired partner of KPMG and has advised many charities and companies with large turnovers.  Richard is also a Trustee on the Board of Colston’s Girls School in Bristol.





Stephen Thorpe
Trustee from December 2009

Stephen worked in Social Services for 27 years, many of which were spent managing and planning care services for older people and people with disabilities.  He then spent 7 years working in policy roles within the NHS at a Strategic Health Authority level, progressing improvement in mental health services, and in promoting many aspects of closer working between health and social care organisations.  He left NHS employment in early 2010 to develop his major interest as a freelance worker which focuses on the implementation of the National Dementia Strategy across the South West over the next 5 years.   



Maggie Hehir
Trustee from January 2016

Maggie is a recently retired senior nurse with over 35 years’ experience in general, mental health and community nursing , teaching and research. She was a Senior Lecturer at the University of the West of England for 9 years, and previously worked as a researcher for the University of Bristol. She is also a qualified teacher in health and social care with specific expertise in long-term conditions and ethics. She has degrees in Social Studies and Ethics of Health Care, and a particular interest in person-centred care. She has lived in Bristol for 20 years. 



Deborah Evans 

Trustee from July 2017

Deborah has worked as a manager and Chief Executive in the NHS for 35 years. She came to Bristol in 1997 and over a decade as a Primary Care Trust Chief Executive in Bristol Deborah worked closely with the City Council with many third sector organisations. For the last five years Deborah has been Managing Director of the West of England Academic Health Science Network, an NHS funded body whose role is to stimulate innovation in the NHS and to spread best practice in care. Deborah has a Masters Degree in Social Policy and is a member of the Faculty of Public Health She is a carer for her husband who is living with dementia.



Gill McLeod

Trustee from August 2017

Gill is an experienced senior housing professional with a proven track record in successfully delivering high quality projects.  Gill is a PFI project Director with the Aster Group and has been a Board Director of Silbury Housing Ltd since November 2015.  She is currently the director responsible for all aspects of this commercial housing project including stakeholder management, governance, finance, performance management and service provision.  She has been an Aster Group champion for Equality & Diversity. Earlier in her career Gill set up a women’s refuge in Chippenham and was also involved in homeless services. 


Nick HooperNick Hooper 

Trustee from March 2018

Nick has spent most of his career in local government, but has also worked in the voluntary and private sectors. His background is in housing development and in the nearly 30 years he spent with Bristol City Council – the last 12 as Director of Housing Solutions – he developed expertise in homelessness, private housing renewal, commissioning, strategy and policy development as well as organisational development.



Ian TurnerIan Turner

Trustee from August 2018

Ian is a Chartered Accountant and retired as a partner from the Accounting and Professional Services firm, KPMG, in 2003. He has since worked in a number of organisations in a Non-Executive Director (“NED”), Executive, Trustee and advisory capacity.

He is currently Deputy Chief Executive and Finance Director of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) which represents Finance Professionals within the NHS. He is also a NED at Devon Partnership NHS Trust the NHS Mental Health Trust based Exeter, a Trustee at RICE a Charity researching into the Care of the Elderly and a trustee of the Healthcare Supply Association (HCSA), a membership organisation for procurement professionals in the NHS.
