New Dementia Care Home, Lacey Road, Bristol

In February 2016, following a competitive tender process, Bristol City Council selected and announced the winning bidders to design, build and then run a new dementia care home, on the former Greville House site, on Lacey Road, Stockwood, Bristol.

Designed by expert and award-winning architects Penoyre & Prasad, Ashley House Plc will be building the new Stockwood dementia care home, providing 69 rooms.

The Council’s vision has been to procure an innovative, socially responsible and ambitious development, capable of providing for the ever-changing needs of those with a high level of nursing dependency, and in particular those living with dementia. Due to increasing local demand, the Council have committed to forward purchase 42 beds in a new purpose built care home, designed to meet Stirling University’s Dementia Care Standards.

Brunelcare - Ashley House is the name of the consortium  delivering this ambitious project and is made up of the following key partners:

  • Ashley House Plc will manage the construction programme until handover on completion of the buildings to the care provider.
  • Brunelcare will manage the building as part of a growing portfolio in Bristol. It will be their responsibility to provide the necessary high quality care services to the 42 Bristol City Council nominated residents beds, and the remaining 27 self-funding residents, for the 25 year contract period.
  • Sustainability and environmental factors have been a key driver for Bristol as will be the consortium’s carefully selected supply chain partners including environmental award-winning architects Penoyre & Prasad LLP.

We are keen to share with you our plans for the proposed nursing home prior to submitting our formal planning application.

The timetable for the development of the home is:

Contract Award  - February 2016
Financial Close  - March 2016
Planning Application Submission  - 8 August 2016-July 2017
Practical Completion – March 2018
Operational -  from April 2018

It is important to us that we work in partnership with the local community, and that they are involved at an early stage to help inform the proposals as they develop.

On Monday 14th March 2016 a Public Consultation took place in Stockwood, providing a forum and the opportunity to view and comment on the development plans. Copies of the details and plans for the development shared at the Consultation are found here:

These are the full pre-application details submitted to Bristol City Council Planning Department.

The new home has been designed to sustainable principles (BREEAM) and has incorporated Stirling University’s Best Practice Guidance for environments suitable for residents with Dementia.
The Council will be entitled to 42 beds, for whom they will nominate the residents. Additional beds will be made available to self-funding members of the community.
Brunelcare will be the manager of the building and provider of care services.
We are hoping that the Care Home will be open in 2018.
Our construction partners are part of the Considerate Contractors Scheme, and will minimise disruption to residents including deliveries and noise.
