Launching our new career development initiative: Thrive at Brunelcare

Today we launched Thrive at Brunelcare, a new career development initiative and commitment to support the professional development and career planning opportunities for all Brunelcare colleagues.

With the launch of Thrive at Brunelcare, we are making two pledges to everyone who works for the charity. These are:

We will actively encourage and support all employees to pursue the qualifications relevant to their current role
We will work with all employees to understand their career aspirations and support internal and external development opportunities to help them achieve their goals.

Over the last four years, we have focused on attracting talent and reducing our number of vacancies by introducing benefits such as Medicash, moving to the real Living Wage and increasing our pension offer. As a result of these ongoing efforts, our employee turnover has been under our target of 25% for the last four months and we have seen a significant reduction in vacancies. Thrive is the latest initiative in our aim to improve our offering as an employer, giving colleagues the opportunity to develop their careers through Brunelcare.

The introduction of Thrive at Brunelcare means we will provide all the information colleagues need to pursue their chosen qualifications and establish the career path they would like to follow, whether that is developing in their current role or taking the next step in their career.

We have established strong relationships with a range of external providers in terms of NVQs, Diplomas, Student Nurse Associates etc. and many colleagues are already pursuing these qualifications. This is in addition to putting a comprehensive internal development offer in place, which includes many different leadership and skills-based workshops.

Brian Whittaker, People & OD Director at Brunelcare, said: “I am proud to be part of an organisation where the Trustees and Directors are totally committed to supporting our 1,100 colleagues in developing new skills and gaining nationally recognised qualifications to enhance their ability to deliver outstanding services and care as well as developing their careers.”

The launch of Thrive at Brunelcare comes in the same week as the unveiling of Skills England, a new body which aims to create a shared national ambition to boost the nation’s skills.

Graham Russell, Chair of Trustees at Brunelcare, said:The board is fully behind this new initiative and proud to be investing in the wonderful work of our colleagues across the Charity. The fact that this is being announced in the same week that the Government has launched Skills England reinforces the importance of this initiative. I encourage all colleagues to take advantage of the opportunities which Thrive provides.”
