The Orchard Grove Reablement Centre team is cycling from Lands’ End to John O’Groats to raise money for a new therapy falls corner!

Starting on Wednesday 1st March, Orchard Grove is holding a month-long fundraiser in the hopes of raising £500 to fund the corner.

Over the course of the month, they’ll be cycling the distance from Lands’ End to John O’Groats, which is an incredible 1,913 km! The team has set a daily target of 62 km and is encouraging members of Brunelcare to participate in helping them reach their goal.

A static electric bike has been set up in the communal lounge, where guests, colleagues, and relatives can take turns cycling to reach their goal. The corner is equipped with a TV screen with a virtual cycle path to replicate the feeling of cycling outdoors, and participants can track their distance on the cycle tracking sheet.

All money raised will go towards a new therapy falls corner, which will allow guests to work with Orchard Grove’s therapy team in a safe environment, with mats, rails and boxes to work on getting up off the floor.

By supporting guests to practice this skill, the team hopes to reduce the likelihood of guests falling at home and requiring hospital readmission.

Sarah Baker, Clinician at Orchard Grove, said: “Our first day went well, and the word is slowly spreading, with people from other departments coming to help get the miles in. We have already had our first donation, which is brilliant!”
